Pictured to the left is some custom cell culture glassware requested by a University researcher. He wanted to create a closed system into which a finite amount of radio-tagged carbon could be introduced. Cells are grown under standard conditions in a standard cell culture vessel. The glass unit attaches to the vessel, and the radio-tagged material is delivered to the medium with a syringe through a septum. The glass supports a membrane to absorb released CO2, thereby allowing an accurate measurement of the metabolism of the carbon, over a relatively short period. |
